The work we do is very different from employment agencies. Our work began in 2011 as a project under Prestige Partners & Associates and we had approval from MOM in email that we are different from employment agency & does not need to apply for EA license in the year of 2013.
Career consortia redefine careers & recruitment and our base stems from research and work through redefinition. The end objectives could be identical, however the objectives and how things are done are completely different with different focus and approach. As we know agencies are profit driven & we are not. We could be seen as pioneers in EA.
We are a nonprofit and do not use state funds. We operate on small scale engagements & constantly redefine our methods while WSG operates on a large scale with a set of methods for all. Meanwhile, we are no replacements for WSG even though we rose up earlier & we do not access to state funds. We are self funded by our founders without views to profits. Careerconsortia could be deemed as one of the many other EA providers except that the organization do not charge a single not receive any interest or revenues in helping the citizens of the state.
We thought so too initially in 2017, when WSG launched. Our founder was glad that WSG had so many programmes and participated to see if he can cross industries at WSG but it seems that it does not work well for his profile. While waiting for WSG to assist, he continues to manage & run Careerconsortia & was successful with his methodologies and were more effective to help others like himself who were unemployed for years. CCL had proven to be effective and is scaling up to effectively help WSG in its state objectives even though the organization does not receive any funds.
Effectively, we provide employment assistance services, since the term is widely recognized in today's context we shall use this term. The services that we offer is rather unique at times and to generalize and place them into genres, they could be found in the assistance pages, clearly defined. Of course our services and operations are solely not for profit purposes and funds are channeled exclusively to the defined activities for public interest to Singaporeans with additional considerations that we have developed to be able to help more citizens at large.
Since the commencement of our activity since 2011, we have not maintained any charges for any services that of which we provided, whether it may be small businesses, individuals, MNCs or any other individuals who had received assistance from us. Back then we are acting identically to what we are doing now, except that we are considered a social enterprise. Similarly we received no funds from the public, we did not collect any donations nor did we have any income. We did have altruistic minded sponsors who co-funded towards our work & causes.
We have found good success in our research data and we took them into implementation on various programmes to deliver benefits for Singapore. One of them is employment assistance for citizens. In our last run in 2020, we managed to have 100% career conversion ratios for all the participants who participated in our programmes. We connected over 1000 individuals per month for almost 12 months. Over the engagement we also affirmed that our methodologies were not simply effective but also highly cost efficient such that would allowed us to scale effectively in short periods.
There are too many challenges to be listed in a simple paragraph, but we are keen to share our in depth experiences to the next generation of individuals who are keen to join us and take over the organization's future. Because the organization was concepted before 2011, it was highly sophisticated & was especially difficult to organize & deployed we had to go through very precise moments to understand the challenges and how to be effective in what we do. We do not have cash to burn like a state owned agency and therefore it was like mission impossible.
There were many elements at play, if we need to attribute all factors into one, at this moment looking back, we would call it the act of God that allowed us to come this far. Another factor was one of the beneficiaries whom we were helping wanted to join us and had co-funded the operations passed away due to critical illness. Whenever the founder thought of giving up, he would brace to honor this co-founder who was always into charitable giving. When we found our third sponsor, who funded us sufficiently to scale, we managed to create our scaled impact in 2020 and that was where the Covid had just came in and we were held back for 6 months due to the lock down.
We do not want to see ourselves doing similar things to WSG, but rather to complement them. Even though we started earlier, and so happened that they were very similar to us and had more funds, we figured we could instead provide them with the blueprints we have so that more citizens could benefit. In fact, the partners working together with WSG such MCCY were requesting for our research docs and they wanted us to send everything we had to them before they would even review us for their charity approval. We submitted as much information as we could and hope that it could really help the state organizations to extend their efficiencies better. We hope that we too, can be patriots to the country.
In the course of our work trying to help the community, there were many rogue individuals who were either owners, beneficiary owners, controllers, staffs, rogue candidates / individuals of profit companies or with profit intentions trying to figure out what is our business model so that "they too" can make profits. They came in waves in different forms to actually source for business models and despite telling everyone that we do not have a business model because we operate on a chargeless basis & in the form of free service for good as a social enterprise back then and were in fact almoost identical to the present day WSG, we actually have an impact model but no business model. If anyone is into recruitment, advice is if any candidate asks about business model should be dropped immediately.
The FAQ section is placed here for strategic reasons, even though it may seem out of place. Everyone including professionals from recruitment industries, profit industries, government industries, non government industries that are so professional & sophisticated seem not understand exactly how we are different from a recruitment industry. We used to have a long process explaining what exactly we do before WSG came out 6 years later, and even after WSG is established we even get recruitment agencies picking on us lashing out rogue tactics, because they think us their competitors. We are just doing good, great & better commitments for public interest. In just this section of research alone, it is clear that we do not even come close to a recruitment industry.
